Homework Challenge

ROOM 7 HOMEWORK PROJECT

Hi Room 7, here is your first homework project of the year. I want you to tell me about something that interests you. It could be a sport, country or skill that you want to share information about with the rest of Room 7. I have shown you examples of the projects Room 6 created last term, so you know what the expectations are regarding layout and tidiness. Try creating something great that you can share with the rest of Room 7. I look forward to seeing what you can create. It is week 1 now and your projects must be completed by week 5which will be August 21st.

My apologies

No updates for a while sorry. Reading my last post I was annoyed to notice all the silly mistakes I made from rushing through my typing. From now on I will not be rushing my updates. The children of Room 5 have worked really hard this term and at the moment are finishing up their twisted tales. This is proving to be a long, drawn out process but the results should be worth it. Maths is focusing on time, so at home using terms like quarter PAST and half past as well as minute TO would be great.

Week 7 (and small week 6 recap

Well last week, maths continued with a focus on fractions. We started writing narrative tales which in plane english are fairy tales. The children are having a great time writing there fairy tales, which have their own little twist.
Week 7 sees the focus on fractions continue, all the children have been working really hard at this. For writing we will be continuing to write and publish our narrative tales. We will be looking to publish these using photostory which is a cool programme that makes short simple movies. With the world cup upon us, our inquiry focus has been on France. The children have chosen areas of France they wish to learn about and have been studying these constantly for the past 3 weeks.
Well the finish is in site, so with that, LETS GO THE MIGHTY ALL BLACKS.

Week 5

Things are chugging along in Room 5. The maths focus continues to be on fractions, ratios and proportions. All indications during these lessons are that the children are really enjoying this. Could just be all this talk about pizzas :). This week in reading I have been focusing on fluency and expression and completing running records with the children so I have evidence of their reading ages. In writing we have been publishing our "Spooky Story Starters". If you have a chance come and read these on our writing wall, I have been extremely pleased with the high standard of work your children have produced. Next week, writing moves to narrative, which will focus on a lot of fairy tales. If possible, try reading fairy tales at home with your children and discuss features with them such as the setting i.e: once upon a time in a beautiful palace......, and the problem eg:, the big bad wolf blowing down the house of sticks. Finally, our inquiry is rolling along focusing on France. Look for newsletters home with more information about this soon.

Week 4, Whoops

Hi everyone, been a bit slack with the updates. Three way conferences have conceluded, thank you to everyone who made it. Just to update whats going on in Room 5 at the moment, for writing we are looking at writing really interesting starts to stories that "hook" the reader in. In reading I will be doing running records with my reading groups to give me evidence of what their reading age is. maths continues with fractions and decimals. Finally, inquiry continues to look at the world cup and in particular our chosen country France. All your children have chosen some part of French culture to learn about and celebrate on our upcoming French day.
Thanks Mr Appleyard

Welcome back for Term 3

WOW, what a short, short break, or at least it seems that way. Great to see all the kids back, the attitude has been fanstastic. This term our big focus is on the world cup and we are all really looking forward to this. The focus for maths this term is fractions and ratios, I will confirm this but I am pretty sure this is the case. For writing we are currently focusing on recounts and everyone is doing a great job. If you have any questions come in and say hi.

Good luck for the term guys!!!

NOT LONG TO GO.

m block market day was really successful, a big thank you to everyone who helped us out. This week in Room 5 things are starting to wind down. We are revisiting writing explanations to re-inforce what we learned earlier at the start of term. The focus in reading the past week to present has been running records which give me an accurate picture of how well the students are achieving in this area, I will be continuing this focus until the end of the week. Some students are getting to try something unique and I hope to post this up at a later date. Have a great week!!!!
